ProMinent from Heidelberg, Germany has developed two efficient sensors for the reliable online measurement of total chlorine. The new construction of the diaphragm system permits even more accurate measurements of total chlorine with even greater long-term stability and allows the combined chlorine to be determined too. The recently launched CTE2 and CTE3 products can be used flexibly in a whole host of water qualities and can be combined with numerous disinfection procedures.

The new DULCOTEST sensors can be used for the determination of combined chlorine in swimming pool water, chloramination of potable water, disinfection of the discharge from municipal and industrial waste water treatment plants and quality assurance in the food industry.

Both CTE2 and CTE3 product ranges have differing measuring ranges and signal outputs and can even be used for high pH values of up to 9.5. What’s more, by deploying modified electrode material, the CTE3 product range is designed for special use in conjunction with the disinfection process of inline electrolysis (tubular cell electrolysis).

Innovative diaphragm system increases efficiency

ProMinent is a global leader in the field of online measurements during disinfection. This further development of the diaphragm system has already demonstrated significant optimisation in relevant field tests in a public swimming pool: compared with their predecessor, CTE1, the new sensors are displaying significantly more homogeneous sensitivity to the various chlorine compounds. The resultant greater measuring accuracy delivers more precise results as the ratio of free to combined chlorine changes.

Other positive aspects

During operation, both sensor types display less signal drift thanks to minimised loss of electrolyte. This results in a more stable measured value over time and less maintenance is therefore required because of the longer calibration intervals. Another plus point is the fact that the CTE2’s electrolyte has a longer service life of nine months. The precise, real-time, amperometric measurement undertaken makes efficient process management possible without any issues resulting from turbid or discoloured water.

The new sensors can be seen in person by visitors to ProMinent’s stands at the INTERBAD trade fair in Stuttgart between 22-24 October and the BRAU trade fair in Nuremberg between 26-28 November 2024.
