Redox Measurement

Redox Measurement

The Redox potential quantifies the existence of oxidants or reducing agents in a medium. The measurement of this parameter is relatively cost-efficient, however, it has also some disadvantages: No selective determination of a defined oxidant or reducing agent, strong pH dependence, the measuring signal takes a saturation curve with increasing concentration.

The Redox potential is an unspecific sum parameter that does not permit selective determination of a defined oxidant or reducing agent at simultaneous presence of further redox active reagents. Moreover, the measuring signal is strongly pH dependent and takes a saturation curve with increasing concentration. However, the Redox measurement can be used as a cost-efficient alternative to selective direct determination of oxidants and reducing agents (e.g. via amperometric probes) or as a redundant measuring additionally to selective direct determination. For this purpose, the following conditions must be observed:

  • The connection to be analyzed is potential determinating and there are no further redox active connections
  • The pH value of the process fluid remains constant
  • The concentration to be expected is located in the steep section of the saturation curve

Application areas

  • Cyanid detoxication at high pH value by oxidation
  • Chromate detoxication at low pH value by  reduction
  • Monitoring of disinfection effect when dosing oxidants
  • etc.

Our Program offers the following Advantages:

  • 11 types of electrodes, partly in different versions (electric connection, installation length, cable length)
  • Fittings for simple installation into bypasses, containers, pipings, a changeover fitting allows replacement without breaking the process
  • Measuring transmitter with display/control for direct forward to a programmable logic controller (PLC) and without display/control
  • Control devices with staged capacities
  • Integration of the control circuits into Bus systems (PROFIBUS®-DP, CANopen-Bus)
  • Easy calibration with buffer solutions available as accessories
  • For frequently arising tasks: complete standardized measuring and metering stations as plug&play modules with optimally inter-adjusted components
